Contribution: Losing Her Dance Shoe

Mitch, a classmate in graduate school, invited me to join him and his girl friend Maggie at a fall dance at her college. Maggie was setting me up with one of her friends so it was a double date weekend. Maggie had it arranged so Mitch and I could spend Saturday night in a visitor guest room on campus. We only had a two hour drive, so we left the morning of the dance and arrived in time to take the girls to lunch at an off campus deli. I was delighted when I met Maggie’s friend, Liz. I rarely go on blind dates, but this time fate tossed me a winner. Liz was very attractive, had a great personality, and we hit it off immediately. That afternoon she was wearing a black mini corduroy jumper dress with a gray turtleneck, gray knee socks, and classic black leather ballet flats. She looked great, and had fantastic legs that kept my attention.

First off, some background: I’m a woman (around 30), I’m bisexual, and I love women’s feet (hate men’s feet, mostly). I’ve known I liked other girls’ feet since I was fourteen, and I stole my first shoe when I was sixteen. But that’s a story for a different day.

Shortly after I graduated college, I got my first office job at a marketing firm. About two hundred people worked there, and they were all attending the company Christmas party. It was in a small banquet hall at a nearby hotel, and everybody was fairly dressed up, cocktail dresses and heels for the women and dress pants and shirts and leather shoes for the men.

Dancing Shoes

A few years ago, I was dating a girl named Steph. For her birthday, Steph’s sister decided to enroll both of us for dancing classes. The classes were various types, one day we would learn ballroom dancing, the next hip hop, and so forth. This isn’t really a story about shoe stealing, but it is a story about how one of my predictions came true.

On one of the days, our instructor announced to the class that we would be learning square dancing and line dancing. I wasn’t excited for what I deemed as “cowboy” dancing, but Steph was. She didn’t much like the traditional dances, but she did enjoy the hip hop class, and this “cowboy” dance was something she always wanted to try.

Dance Like No One is Watching

I had a mutual friend in high school named Katie. I hung out with her a few times every now and then, but she was no more than a Facebook acquaintance at best. It wasn’t until she moved away and became the roommate of one of my best friends that I became closer to her.

Let me preface this by saying two things:

  1. This isn’t a specific story and isn’t really a shoe loss story, but rather a thought.
  2. The image attached here is just a random Google image

I learned from Katie that this whole shoeless situation was more of a state of mind than it was an activity or chore. Yes, I have friends who are deathly scared of being caught in public without shoes, so much so that even trying on shoes is a chore to them. Then there are those who read the situation, typically with a little alcohol they loosen up, and let loose. And then there were those like my friend Katie.
